Uttlesford District Council issue stop notices to rogue airport parking operators

Uttlesford District Council's enforcement officers have served, a Temporary Stop Notice, two Enforcement Notices and two Stop Notices, on unauthorised airport parking sites in the areas around Stansted Airport. The council is also investigating several other sites.

As Stansted Airport returns to pre-pandemic levels of activity the areas nearby have been experiencing increasing volumes of unauthorised airport parking in fields and farmyards, which has become prominent this summer.

Such activities cause an excessive burden on our restricted roads and constant disturbance through busy 24/7 traffic movements, as well as a visual intrusion into the countryside.

Although the areas where this unauthorised parking is happening are close to the airport, the council is committed to preventing the intrusion of airport related activities into the villages and hamlets nearby.

In response our enforcement team has carried out a focussed and intensive investigation of these unauthorised activities and in the past week have served Enforcement Notices to operators to stop these actions.

Councillor Petrina Lees, Leader of the Council said "Residents and businesses should not have to put up with dangerous driving and anti-social parking from people parking near the airport.

"Illegal parking in fields not only harms the environment, it also looks unsightly and can be dangerous with large numbers of vehicles being driven on small roads.

"I hope these stop notices serve as a reminder that the council takes incidents of rogue parking extremely seriously and will take the firmest course of action when it has the evidence to do so."

The serving of Stop Notices on operators makes continuing the parking operations a criminal offence, which may result in prosecution.
