Uttlesford review of polling districts, places and stations - have your say

Polling stations within Uttlesford are checked and reviewed at every election. Uttlesford District Council must also complete, by law, a full review of its polling districts and polling places (buildings) and the associated station (room where the voting takes place) every five years.

The council has started a review of its polling districts, places and stations and is asking for feedback - either of support for the existing arrangements or suggestions for alternatives.

This assessment seeks to improve the electoral process by making polling locations convenient and accessible to all eligible voters, promoting a fair and efficient electoral system. It evaluates current arrangements, identifies potential improvements, and ensures easy access to democratic rights for everyone in the district.

The key aspects of the review include:

·         Improving accessibility: Assessing the geographical distribution of polling stations to ensure they are conveniently located and accessible to all residents, including those with disabilities or mobility challenges.

·         Community engagement: Welcoming feedback and suggestions from community groups, registered electors, and stakeholders to understand their specific needs and preferences regarding polling locations.

·         Population changes: Adapting polling districts to accommodate changes in population density, demographic shifts and residential developments, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently.

·         Improving facilities: Identifying opportunities to improve the facilities and amenities at existing polling places, making the voting experience more comfortable and welcoming.

The deadline to submit feedback is Monday 13 November. The council encourages all eligible participants to get involved in this vital process, as their input will shape the future of polling arrangements in Uttlesford.
