Council to complete roll-out of cashless payment machines across its car parks

Since 2021, Uttlesford District Council has been rolling out a planned programme of upgrades to the payment machines in its pay-and-display car parks.

The council operates 10 pay-and-display car parks across the district. Following an extended period of vandalism and theft in 2021, the council started phasing out cash machines and replacing with more reliable card machines - this allows users to pay for their parking using credit or debit card. They can also pay for parking using an app on their smart phone or via an automated telephone number.

All cash machines in the four council-managed car parks in Dunmow, as well as Crafton Green in Stansted, and Swan Meadow and Rose & Crown in Saffron Walden, were upgraded in 2021.

The final phase of the roll-out will see the remaining few cash machines replaced next week - this includes the Fairycroft/Waitrose and Common car parks in Saffron Walden, along with Lower Street in Stansted.

The installation of the new machines will begin on Wednesday 6 December. Notices will be displayed in the affected car parks.

There are a number of different ways in which customers can pay for their parking:

·       Debit or credit card including contactless

·       Apple Pay or Google Pay

·       MiPermit - download the app or register for free to use the service online, over the phone or by text message. Further information at: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/mipermit
