New car parking tariffs go live

The new tariff and season ticket changes and increased charges in Uttlesford District Council pay-and-display car parks come into effect today (8 April), with the exception of Catons Lane and London Road car parks which will come into effect later in the year.

The new tariff and season ticket changes and increased charges in Uttlesford District Council pay-and-display car parks come into effect today (8 April), with the exception of Catons Lane and London Road car parks which will come into effect later in the year.

They include:

  • extending the daily charging period in council car parks from 5pm to 6pm
  • introducing flat rate tariffs for parking in council car parks on Sundays and Bank Holidays (£1.50 in Saffron Walden excluding Fairycroft/Waitrose car park, and £1 in Great Dunmow and Stansted Mountfitchet)
  • introducing charges at Catons Lane car park in Saffron Walden as a long-stay car park
  • introducing charges at London Road car park in Saffron Walden at weekends as a long-stay car park
  • removing season tickets at Chequers Lane in Great Dunmow
  • introducing hybrid season tickets
  • including the MiPermit convenience fee (10p) when paying for parking using the mobile app

A public consultation on the changes was held in January and February, with nearly 500 individual comments received and a petition organised by Saffron Walden BID. In response to the comments, the council has made some significant alterations to the initial proposals - these include retaining the season ticket tariff at Crafton Green, retaining the 30-minute tariff in Saffron Walden car parks, and reducing the proposed increase on season ticket charges.

In addition, a revised Sunday tariff is being considered at Fairycroft Road car park following feedback by Waitrose. The alternative arrangements will be discussed at a Cabinet meeting later this month.

More information about the car parking changes is available on the North Essex Parking Partnership website.
