Budget consultation 2025/26 (closed)

We were asking you to tell us how much we should be spending on our services in 2025 to 2026 and what our priorities should be.

This consultation is now closed

Thank you to everyone who responded.

We are now looking at the feedback which will help us in setting the budget for the district.

From 20 December 204 to 12 January 2025 we ran a budget consultation for Uttlesford's 2025/26 financial year and the Medium Term Financial Plan covering the years 2025/26 through to 2029/30.

Background

2025/26 will be a year of unprecedented uncertainty for local government, especially for shire district councils, like Uttlesford, who are expecting a large reduction of funding due to government shifting resources away from districts towards areas of deprivation.

This happens at a time when there are major changes afoot in terms of local government responsibilities.  There is also the strong likelihood of local government reorganisation for the first time in 50 years.

The 2025/26 draft budget

As such, this draft budget is provisional and was made as prudently as was feasible to protect core local services.  Nonetheless, further changes are expected with new announcements, and clarification of provisional announcements, over the coming weeks.
