Essex County Council Elections - Thursday 1 May 2025

Local elections will take place across Essex in May 2025 to elect new councillors to the County Council.

More information is available on the Essex County Council website.

For anyone considering standing for the elections in May you are advised to consult the Electoral Commission's website which is a source of guidance and advice for all candidates and agents.

Since the last elections in May 2021 a boundary review has taken place and the elections will be on the revised boundaries. Uttlesford District will be represented by 5 county councillors from May 2025 (up one from 2021).  Full details of the Review can be seen on the Boundary Commission's website.

Publication of Notice of Election

Monday 24 March.

This is the formal legal notice that starts the election.

Nomination period

From Tuesday 25 March - week days between 10.00am and 4.00pm until Wednesday 2 April - 4.00pm (legal deadline).

No appointments are necessary, however we encourage them, so please message candidateinfo@uttlesford.gov.uk to book a slot

Nomination packs

Nomination packs will appear here by Friday 7 March.

This will include the actual nomination paper that any candidates must download, complete and return within the above time period.

They must be submitted in person by 4.00pm on Wednesday 2 April.

Poll cards

Poll cards will be posted around 25 March.  If you receive a poll card it means you are registered to vote. If you have not received one by 1 April, it may mean you are not registered, so please contact us.

Your poll card will tell you where your polling station is.

Register to vote deadline

Deadline: Friday 11 April (midnight)

Register to vote in person 

Postal vote deadline

Deadline: Monday 14 April at 5.00pm 

If you already have a postal vote, you should receive a postal poll card by 1 April.

Apply for a postal vote

Postal vote packs will be sent by first class post. The date to be determined.

The bulk of postal votes are sent on a earlier date with the balance for later applications posted by Friday 18 April.  

If you have not received your pack by Friday 25 April, please contact us for a replacement pack.

Important - since legal changes from May 2024, postal votes cannot simply be dropped off to the council offices on a polling station on election day without a form being completed.  We encourage everyone to complete their postal vote ASAP on receipt and post them back.   

Proxy vote deadline

Deadline: Wednesday 23 April at 5.00pm

Apply for a proxy vote 

A proxy poll card will be issued for someone to vote on your behalf at your usual polling station.

Voter Authority Certificate deadline 

Deadline: Wednesday 23 April at 5.00pm

To vote in person at a polling station you need to bring prescribed photo identification

Polling and Counting Agents

Candidates have until Thursday 24 April to appoint such agents to observe electoral processes.

Count

This will take place at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre Saffron Walden from 10.00pm on polling day.  Only certain persons can attend this event.

The result will appear here after this time.
