Running is not only great for the soul but is also good for your wellbeing too.

The Great Dunmow parkrun is a motivating way to start your weekend. It's a free, weekly, 5km run, held every Saturday morning at 9am, and entirely organised by volunteers.

It's not a race, although you can track your progress over the weeks, as you'll receive a time after each run. It also gives you the opportunity to meet new people and socialise.

Find out more about the Great Dunmow parkrun on the Parkrun website.

The benefits

A weekly 5km run could help you burn approximately 300 extra calories, depending on your pace and weight. Furthermore, research indicates that your body consumes more oxygen after exercise, which helps you to continue to burn calories following exercise. The fresh air and chemicals that your body releases when running can also improve your mood and overall sense of wellbeing.
