Recycling and waste

Rubbish and recycling

How to deal with waste if you are self-isolating or have Coronavirus

We have put together a guide telling you what you need to do to get rid of waste if you are self-isolating or you have Coronavirus.

Updates on our service due to Coronavirus

Bins - waste and recycling collections
: Waste collections are continuing as normal at this time but may be a little later than normal in collecting your bins. We do have contingency plans in place and will communicate those if/when those plans kick-in.

Bins - garden waste collections: Our garden waste service will be running again from Monday 20 April.

Bins - missed bins: We are unable to return for any missed bins. You can place any recycling out in bags next to your green recycling binready for your next scheduled collection. Please put the additional recycling next to your green bin  - it must be in clear bags, carrier bags, white bags or cardboard boxes only, as we can not accept black sacks. We will not collect any additional non-recycling left out with your black waste bin.

Bulky waste collections starting again: We will be starting our bulky household waste collections again from Tuesday 21 April, after a short break to ensure the health of the public and staff, and so that the teams could prioritise the remainder of the waste and recycling service. Please note that we can not currently collect any electrical items. This is because the recycling facility is closed due to the coronavirus situation.

Replacement bins: We will no longer be able to deliver replacement or additional bins. We will still be delivering bins to new build properties.

Garden waste weekend skip service: The garden waste weekend skip service resumed on Saturday 30 May.

Waste and recycling sites (the dump): 15 recycling centres, including the one at Thaxted Road in Saffron Walden, are due to open on Monday 18 May for waste or recycling which cannot be stored at home without causing a health or safety risk. The Saffron Walden site will be open from 9am to 5pm every day.

A visit to a recycling centre is only essential where there is no alternative available. The safest way to get rid of your waste and recycling by is using your kerbside collection.

New site restrictions and social distancing measures will be in place to ensure the safety of residents and site staff.
